Elye Kate Nesbitt

Elye (pronounced like "Eli") was born at 12:06am Wednesday morning. She was about 4 weeks early. Joni's water broke at school on Tuesday afternoon and shocked all of us. Elye is doing fine though. She was 5 lb. 15 oz. and 18 inches long. Reesi is head over heels for her. We call her the baby hog. My girls are very excited about her too. We think she looks like Reesi so far. She has black hair and dark eyes and the same mouth as Reesi for sure. The next post has a slide show of pictures from the hospital that I took on Wednesday.

Easter Pics

Sunday mornings are hard to get the girls ready and out the door. So, Easter mornings photo sessions have never gone very well for me. Here are some pictures that simply document the occasion. Nothing special, just wanted to document their outfits and what they looked like on Easter, 2009. I like the picture of Grace with Sophie more than the Easter pictures. :)

Storm!

The Friday night before Easter a storm came through the area. Tornados actually touched down in Murfreesboro, about 40 minutes from here. Luckily, we just had strong storms. We woke up Saturday morning to this big limb in our backyard. I'm really glad it didn't land on anything important.

Easter Eggs

On the first day of spring break the girls colored Easter eggs. It took me longer to get everything ready and the eggs cooked then it did for them to decorate them! Eric was there to help, thank goodness. He tried to play an Easter memory card game with them while waiting. I'm glad it was him and not me. He has much more patience for teaching games to small children. The game had to be put away after a few tries and a few fights though.

Once the eggs were done they enjoyed decorating them. They finished very fast and wanted more when their 12 eggs were done. Lyla ended up getting too curious and dipping both of her hands in the dye. Should I have expected anything less? Not likely.

The Real Spiderman

A few weekends ago Lyla's best buddy had his 4th birthday party at a local park. It was a super hero party and you were supposed to come dressed as your favorite super hero. Lyla was Batman. I lucked out by finding Batman pj's on clearance at Wal-Mart. The biggest excitement of the party was when the real Spiderman showed up. The kids went crazy! He played games with a parachute and posed for some pictures too. The kids loved it. Lyla kept saying, "I can't believe it! It's the real spiderman from Disney world."

Lyla's Special Night

Last Friday night Grace wanted to spend the night with Reesi....without Lyla. This is tricky. Lyla, of course, wants to be involved in everything Grace and Reesi do. And she is always included. But that night Grace really wanted a night without Lyla. So, we had to come up with a "reason" Grace was going to Reesi's house without Lyla. Joni had the idea to make a special night all about Lyla. So, I told Lyla we were going to have a special night, just her and mommy and daddy and she got to choose whatever she wanted to do. She said she wanted a cake with candles and a long movie. Eric was playing in a golf tournament, so Lyla and I went to dinner together and she chose what kind of food she wanted, which was pizza. I did refuse ChuckECheese, but we did get pizza. Then we went to Publix for a cake. I made her settle for a cupcake when she really wanted a full size cake. I just couldn't have a huge cake in my kitchen for the next week! Then we went to Blockbuster to pick out a movie. It was Batman for her. Then after the movie, she wanted mommy to sleep with her all night. It was a special night, just for Lyla. And Grace had a good night too. Dinner, movie and slumber party with Reesi.

Lyla's Spring Program

Lyla and Reesi's spring program at preschool was last Thursday. The theme was Noah's ark. Each class was dressed a different way. Lyla's class was dressed like construction workers. Reesi's class was dressed like animals. Reesi was a bird. They did a great job and were so cute.

The Discovery Center

I went to The Discovery Center with Grace's kindergarten class last week. I was so glad I was able to go with her. She's so sweet and loves for me to be there. She held my hand the whole time. It makes me sad to think that her desire for me to be with her will soon fade.

Anyway, we walked through the wetlands they have, caught tadpoles, waded in a creek, and painted. They didn't give the kids enough time to play in the center though. The majority of the time was spent walking outside. I think the kids would have enjoyed playing in the discovery center more.

Grace had a good time and so did I!

Two Gone!

Grace lost her 2nd tooth last week. We started to get a little concerned because the permanent tooth had started coming up behind, way behind, the baby tooth. It was coming in sideways too. Grace wouldn't let Eric pull the tooth. I thought I was going to have to take her to the dentish to have it pulled. I called Julie and asked her what to do and she said to tell her to twist it, don't just move it back and forth. She said it's normal for this to happen and not to worry because the new tooth will move into place once the baby tooth is gone. The very next day Grace let the school nurse pull it! I was so glad! I hope Nurse Ruthie pulls all of the teeth!

Egg Hunt at Preschool

Lyla had her Easter Egg Hunt and party last Tuesday at preschool. The kids were very excited. The eggs were hidden in the courtyard playground. When the doors opened they darted every which way to find the eggs. Lyla was running everywhere. Then right at the end when the eggs had all been found Lyla dropped her basket and all of her eggs fell out. Some of the other kids saw more eggs rolling on the ground and started grabbing them. Lyla was soooo upset. That is the picture of her crying. I tried to explain that the teachers were going to redistribute the eggs while the kids were eating so that everyone got the same number of eggs. This didn't console her at all. The rest of the party she was quiet, sad and upset. Poor thing.
