Soccer and an annoucement

Last Saturday was another soccer game for Grace. My mom and dad came to town to see her so Julie and Reesi went to the game with us as well. Grace did a great job! Her coach on the field told me she "runs like the wind". Grace says she "runs like a cheetah". She does run fast. She was in front of the pack most of the time. She went after the ball no matter who had it, teammate or not. That is something we're going to be working on next week! She scored 3 goals and made a great assist with another goal. She was pretty proud of herself.

I am careful about how I praise her though. I try not to dwell on the goals she scores but on how much endurance she had, how well she listened, how she helped her teammates, etc. Eric says I'm being crazy. I just don't want her to grow up and be like me. If I'm not good at something right off the bat, I don't want to do it. I want her to learn to enjoy something even if she's not perfect. I don't want her to learn that scoring a goal is the only objective.

Reesi went to the game with us too. She was so funny. She sat in her little camping chair with an umbrella over her head, for the sunshine, and cheered for Grace the WHOLE time! She is definitely going to be the cheerleader! She kept yelling and telling Grace she was doing good and to work hard and do her best. At one point, Grace fell and hurt her knee a little. Nothing major, it just made her tear up for a minute but then she was fine. After that Reesi was yelling for Grace to "do your best with that boo-boo". It was cute.

Lyla was frustrated at the game. She wants to be on that field so bad. We had trouble keeping her off of the field. Eric played soccer with her in the empty field next to us. That girl can run!

After the game, we all went to Sonic. Joni brought her video camera so she could tell Reesi the big news. She is going to have a baby in May! When Reesi first heard the news she was quiet. She didn't really say much and Joni turned off the camera. But then it started to sink in and Reesi was getting really excited. At one point she said, "my heart is full of that baby". She's already kissing Joni's tummy and talking about what kind of big sister she's going to be.

On the way to preschool this morning, Reesi told us that she couldn't sleep last night because she was worrying about the baby. Then she started telling Lyla all of the rules of what Lyla can't do with the baby, like, screaming, hitting, biting, and scaring the baby. The one thing she said Lyla could do with the baby was sing it a lullaby. Lyla responded by explaining why she might scream when she saw the baby. She said very matter-of-factly that when big people see a baby they might get excited and that might make them scream. But it would be OK because she would hold the baby it if got scared.

When we got to preschool Reesi told everyone she saw that her mommy was going to have a baby. Several times she told people she was going to have a baby sister. When we went in her classroom she immediately told her teacher that her mommy is going to have a baby. She also told her that she went to the doctore with her mommy to see if the baby was "alive or dead". Thankfully, it is alive! She even told the check-out lady at Target this afternoon! I'm afraid this is going to be a long 7 months!
