Lyla's new Scooby shirt

While we were at Goodwill looking for a cane for Grace's 100 year old costume, Lyla found this wonderful Scooby shirt. She thinks it is just great. I'll keep my opinions to myself. She actually wore it to preschool 2 days in a row this week! I know there are some moms around here that wouldn't let their children be caught dead in a "character" shirt. I agree, they aren't the most attractive, stylish clothing. But, I want Lyla to be herself. I want her to learn that looks aren't what matters. I want her to learn to make her own choices. I want her to be free to express her own style and personality. I don't want her to learn that she has to dress a certain way to fit in. I don't want her to learn that she has to wear a certain brand of clothing to be cute, pretty, cool or whatever. So, to the moms that can't stand "character" clothing...please, just look the other way and keep your comments to yourself.

I love it! I've never even heard of "character" clothing. She's four..who cares what she wears? Anyway...it's Lyla..so I love it. :-)

Hey Jenny! I just found your blog and I think Lyla is the cutest little girl ever!!! I love her scooby shirt and before I had kids, I used to be that person that said I wouldn't let my kids wear that kind of stuff, but once I became a mom, that flew out the window and if Will found that shirt he would love it b/c scooby doo is his favorite! We had the ugliest scooby doo birthday cake this summer and he LOVED it and I didn't care! My sister Allison was just like Lyla. She wanted to dress like a boy and had her own idea of how she wanted to dress and my mom let her do it. She is now the girliest girl and we laugh at her "mc hammer" pants and different colored converse high tops that she used to wear. I think it's great that you're letting her be who she wants to be! My boys don't really have an opinion on what they want to wear which is nice so I just lay out Will's clothes and he puts them on.
