Elf Magic

Joni has an Elf on the Shelf for Reesi. The Elf comes from Santa and sits around your house watching to see if the children are naughty or nice and then reports back to Santa. Well, because Reesi has one, we had to have one (or two) too.

I found a different brand of Elf on the Shelf this week that I thought was pretty cute. They come with a big long story. First, your supposed to write a letter to Santa requesting that he let his elves come visit and play with us until Christmas. Then Santa sends his elves over night. The next morning the elves have arrived and are waiting on the kitchen counter. They come with a long poem from Santa, their own magic snowflakes and instructions on how to take care of them. We have to put them back on the countertop each night with crackers and water to eat and drink. The crackers crunch and sound like snow crunching. That is why they like to eat crackers. Then you sprinkle the magic snowflakes on them to make them come to life while we're sleeping. While we sleep the elves come to life and eat their crackers, drink their water and get into mischief. In the morning we have to find the elves, who have fallen back to sleep in a different place. Sometimes they leave a little mess for us to clean up or a special treat or note to read. During the day, the elves like to go with us wherever we go and have adventures. Then on Christmas Eve the elves go back to Santa to report on the children's behavior and help Santa fill his sleigh for delivery.

Yesterday the girls "wrote" their letters to Santa. Much to our surprise, Santa actually sent two elves to our house last night! One girl elf, named Jillian, and one boy elf, named Casey. Lyla has since renamed Casey. His new name is "Ford". Jillian and Ford have gone everywhere with us today.

Before the girls went to bed, they set up Ford and Jillian, gave them crackers and water, and sprinkled their magic snowflakes. It will be interesting to see what kind of trouble they get into tonight!
