Eric and I had our 10 year wedding anniversary on October 17th this year. We thought we would take a nice trip to celebrate but after looking at the prices we changed our minds. We ended up going to Boston because Eric was going there anyway for a convention. His plane, hotel and food was paid for so I tagged along and we called it our anniversary vacation. I wouldn't say Boston at 3o degrees is what I think of as a 2nd honeymoon, but we had a nice time anyway.
Eric had to go to the convention during the day so I had a lot of alone time, which I don't mind. I enjoyed sleeping late, reading and walking around Boston some. I shopped a little but didn't buy much. We were staying near a popular shopping area but it definitely did not have affordable prices. I also took the subway to Harvard Square one day. I didn't really like riding the subway by myself. I just wasn't sure enough about making the train changes to be comfortable. I made it and walked around some old Harvard buildings though. That was nice.
We did enjoy eating out every night. I do not enjoy cooking so I LOVE to eat out. We don't do it very often at home because of the girls. So it was a treat to eat out every day. I learned that I really like chowder!
On the last day we were in Boston, Eric was done early so we took at bus tour of the city. We got off at the stop where "Old Iron Sides" is docked. It is the oldest war ship still at sea today. It was built in 1790 something, that's what Eric said anyway. We went aboard for a tour. We also walked up to the Bunker Hill monument. We walked to the top of the monument, which was 297 steps! I had to stop several times and Eric thought I was a big wimp.
It was really cold so I didn't do much exploring on my own. I don't really enjoy walking in the cold. I did read two big books in two days though!
I was a fun time and a nice break from our everyday lives. Thank goodness for business trips!
