Last week Eric and I went to San Antonio, TX with Dan and Amy, two of our best friends. We used to live across the street from them and also went to church together. We did everything together back in the good old days. Kids seem to change things like that. But we still get together as often as we can and have our annual New Year's Eve party every year. Anyway, Dan, Amy and Eric are all engineers. So when we're together the conversation always goes there and I'm totally left out. But, anyway, there was a convention in San Antonio about traffic engineering and Dan was actually a speaker at the convention. Eric was going as an attendee. So we made a little trip of it. We were all in the same hotel and just a few rooms apart. During the day the guys went to the convention and Amy and I slept late and walked around the town enjoying our free time. It was hot though! It was at least 100 degrees every day. We all took at least 2 showers a day and one day I even took 3 showers! The riverwalk is the main tourist area downtown and it's all outside so we were sweaty all the time!
One night we took a riverwalk cruise that served dinner as well. It was with a restaurant called Boudros. They have the best guacomole I've ever had! If you like guac you should go to their website because they have the recipe on their website. It is http://www.boudros.com/boudros/goodies.php. So we floated down the river, ate LOTS of really good food and heard a history lesson on San Antonio and the riverwalk. It was really great.
We also went to a little restaurant called The Tip Top Cafe. They were featured on Food Network. It was down home style cooking. We all ate the country fried steak with gravy, which is what they're famous for. It is literally as big as your plate!
We also saw the Alamo, which is in the middle of San Antonio. Dan and Amy did the tour but Eric and I didn't. We did it 2 years ago and didn't feel like doing it again. I did get some neat night pictures of the Alamo though.
It was a really fun trip. But, my pants are fitting too well now! I actually gained 4 pounds in the 4 days we were gone! It was soooooo good though! Now it's back to carrots and apples for me. Eric and I love spending time with our friends and enjoyed our trip together. Hopefully it won't be another 7 years before the next trip!
Here are some of my pictures. I took several more (are you surprised?) but I didn't feel like uploading them all right now.
